The only good part of F1 is coming to an end. The Flamingo Bridge is a temporary vehicle bridge that was created for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix to allow cars to drive over the track during race days. It helped traffic flow in the area immensely. While local businesses said they’re glad to see it come down, it is only a matter of time before it goes back up ahead of the 2024 race.
Construction crews have initiated the removal of the contentious temporary bridge used during the 2023 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix at Flamingo Road over Koval Lane. Business owners in the vicinity express relief as they believe the bridge adversely impacted their businesses, prompting some to seek compensation for financial losses.
Las Vegas Souvenir and Gifts Manager Simran Singh stated, “Ever since F1 was here, it wasn’t really good for us. We lost a lot of business, a lot of money, a lot of customers have not been coming into here because of the bridge.” The demolition process, which began on Sunday night, is expected to be completed by February 1 at 9 p.m., leading to temporary road closures in the area.
The temporary bridge, initially installed to manage race day traffic, remained after the Grand Prix for a traffic study. However, it has been a source of contention among locals. Some express frustration with ongoing Formula 1-related construction, while others find the road conditions confusing and inconvenient.
Despite the current removal, the temporary bridge is anticipated to return for the 2024 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix scheduled from November 21 to November 23. Ongoing preparations for the 2024 event include utility work with single lane closures on Koval Lane between Harmon Avenue to Westchester Drive during specific nighttime hours.
