The top two teams in the WNBA’s regular season are now set to square off against one another in the 2023 WNBA Finals as the New York Liberty joined the Las Vegas Aces in the championship round thanks to an 87-84 win over the Connecticut Sun Sunday afternoon. That victory clinched the semifinal series for the Liberty, three games to one.
Game 1 of the best-3-out-of-5 Finals series is slated for October 8 at Las Vegas’ Michelob ULTRA Arena. Tip is at 12 pm PT, and the game is being broadcast on ABC. The Aces will host Games 1, 2 and if necessary, Game 5, while the Liberty’s Barclays Center will serve as the site for Games 3 and if necessary Game 4.
The Aces swept their way to the Finals taking care of the number 8 seed Chicago Sky in 2 straight, and dispatching with the 4 seed Dallas Wings in 3. New York beat the 7th-seeded Washington Mystics in 2 games, but dropped Game 1 of their semifinal series against Connecticut, 78-63. The Sun put a scare into the Liberty in Game 2 as well, but New York erased a 12-point deficit to tie the series at one apiece. The Liberty then took care of business in back-to-back games on Connecticut’s home court to close out the series.
Las Vegas and New York split their regular season series, 2-2, with both teams holding serve at home. The Aces finished the regular season with both the most efficient offense and defense in the WNBA, while New York ranked second and third respectively.
